LONDON, October 3, 2011 – Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF) received the "Best Annual Report" Award at the Digital Communications Awards* at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Berlin on Friday.

The Foundation was honoured for its video included in the TRF annual report 2010 and for its "outstanding accomplishment in the field of digital communications and PR".

"Say 'annual report' and people walk the other way: boring. Annual reports can be dull, full of numbers, poor visuals and corporate jargon. Make our annual report look attractive and fun was a tough challenge not only for our creative team but for everyone in the Foundation. That's how we came up with the idea of a 5 minutes video 'guerrilla style'", Monique Villa,Thomson Reuters Foundation CEO, explained.

The video was made in a very unique way including "behind the scenes" black and white footage to break the sometimes "too slick" corporate visuals of some reports. All employees took part in the project, avoiding the classic CEO monologue and reflecting the Foundation's human values and team spirit.

The video was produced by, TRF's multimedia director, Claudine Boeglin, and her small team in only ten days for less than 5000 dollars.

"Winning such an award is very important because of the visibility in the communications sector. Due to the high quality of the jury members it's a real honour and certifies that the quality of your annual report has a high standard", Arne Westermann, chairman of jury and professor of communications management at organisers Quadriga University, said.

Thomson Reuters Foundation was also nominated for the "Best Corporate website" award for the AlertNet website and for the "Online Campaigns by Institutions" Award for "The five worst countries for a woman to live in" poll.
