Thomson Reuters Foundation scoops new round of awards1

LONDON (Trust.org) - Thomson Reuters Foundation's humanitarian news site AlertNet and its online portal Trust.org have won prestigious EPPY Awards from media journal Editor and Publisher.

AlertNet, esteemed in the aid community for its up-to-the-minute coverage of crises ranging from natural disasters to conflicts, won a "Best News Website" award.

"Best Overall Website Design" award went to Trust.org – which links to the foundation's services including AlertNet, journalism training site TrustMedia, legal assistance, good governance and women's rights site TrustLaw, the foundation's Emergency Information Service (EIS) and the Reuters Institute.

The EPPY Awards, now in their 16th year and judged by a panel of notable figures in the media industry, honour the best media-affiliated websites across 43 diverse categories.

The awards follow a spate of others received by Thomson Reuters Foundation this year:

* AlertNet awarded a gold trophy for "Best News Site" at the Lovie Awards.

* AlertNet winner of a "Voices of Courage" award from the Women's Refugee Commission (WRC).

* Thomson Reuters Foundation gets "Best Annual Report" award at the Digital Communications Awards.

* TrustMedia winner of a "Commended Company" designation by the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for its innovative journalist training on health reporting.

* EIS gets "Best Use of New Media" at the Social Innovation Awards.
