Reuters Foundation delivered four workshops on Elections Reporting and Women Political Empowerment for Print and TV & Radio journalists in Bahrain in November. It provided writing skills, reporting techniques, techniques to run a talk show and TV camera skills for the enhancement of a group of young Bahraini journalists.

The workshops, sponsored by the Bahrain Institute for Political Development (BIPD) and the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), in partnership with the United Nations Development Program and cooperation with the Foundation, was held in the Mercure Grand Hotel Seef in Manama, Bahrain.

Eight journalists and/or announcers from local newspapers, TV and Radio attended each workshop. Print journalists practiced their skills under the direction of Ashraf Shady, Nadia El-Gowely and Rana Sabbagh, writing exercises and stories.  They were trained on how best be prepared for a news conference and interviews.  Part of the workshop was slide show presentations and another was holding news conferences and interviews.

In addition to that, they were taken off-site to visit election campaigns and write coverage reports.  A woman candidate was hosted for a round table discussion. They wrote a woman in the news.  TV & Radio journalists and announcers practiced their skills under the direction of Saad Hattar and Ali Asaad: they were trained on how best they can run a talk show and face TV cameras.  In addition to that they were trained on preparing a story and covering a gap in broadcasting.   The workshops were a success.
