Climate Change and its likely impact on mankind were at the heart of back-to-back workshops for Chinese journalists in October, latest in the Foundation’s joint programme at Beijing’s sprawling Tsinghua University (37,000 students).

The first workshop, “Reporting Crises and Disasters” (renamed “Covering Natural Disasters” by the University) focused heavily on reporting and featured the use of AlertNet as a resource for journalists – Tim Large, AlertNet. Deputy editor, was co-trainer with Peter Mosley.  Asia News Editor Sonya Hepinstall, in town for the major Communist Party Congress, joined in a lively media seminar with the theme “When Disasters Strike”, along with former Beijing bureau chief Jane McCartney, now with the Times, and Jonathan Watts of the Guardian.

In the second workshop, “Reporting the Environment”,  run by Colin McIntyre and Peter Mosley, the group visited a new museum of urban planning highlighting next year’s Olympics, and wrote features about the drive to clean up the city’s notorious pollution before Beijing takes the world centre-stage.
