MIAMI, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Hurricane Earl strengthened into a Category 4 storm on Monday as it moved across Atlantic waters northeast of Puerto Rico, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
The Miami-based center said Earl, the second major hurricane of the 2010 Atlantic season, was packing top sustained winds of close to 135 miles per hour (215 kph). (Editing by Pascal Fletcher)
