Israel, Palestinian talks "productive"-U.S. envoy

WASHINGTON, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had a productive first set of direct peace talks on Thursday, U.S. Middle East peace envoy George Mitchell said.

Mitchell told reporters said Thursday's talks were still under way but reflected "good faith and seriousness of purpose" by both leaders.
