WASHINGTON, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Hurricane Earl was downgraded to a tropical storm on Friday, weakening as it swirled up the U.S. eastern seaboard, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
The storm, which earlier had been a major hurricane, was now packing sustained winds of 70 mph (110 kph), the Miami-based hurricane center said.
