UNITED NATIONS (AlertNet) - Bernhard Schwartlander, director of strategy and policy for the U.N. AIDS programme, spoke with AlertNet about Millennium Development Goal 6, which targets HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, at the U.N. in New York.

In 2000, the U.N. set targets to halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS by 2015, and to provide universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS by 2010, as one of eight measurable goals intended to improve the lives of the world's poor.
