BEIJING, Oct 8 (Reuters) - China's southern resort island of Hainan has evacuated more than 6,000 people after a reservoir burst its banks following days of heavy rain, state media said on Friday.

There have been no casualties reported so far, the official Xinhua news agency said.

Hainan, better known in China for its lush forests and normally sun-soaked beaches, has evacuated a total of 210,000 people in the last week due to the downpours, which have inundated more than 1,000 villages, Xinhua said.

The bad weather has caused 1.13 billion yuan ($168.9 million) in damages and more rain is expected this weekend, the report added.

Chinese President Hu Jintao has demanded the island's government work all out to limit damage and evacuate people in time, Xinhua said. ($1=6.690 Yuan) (Reporting by Ben Blanchard)
