MIAMI, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Richard formed over the northwestern Caribbean Sea on Thursday, the 17th named storm of the busy 2010 Atlantic hurricane season, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

Richard could become a hurricane by the weekend, the Miami-based center said, on a forecast track that would take it over Belize and Mexico&${esc.hash}39;s Yucatan peninsula by Monday.

Packing top sustained winds of 40 miles per hour (65 kph), the storm was located 220 miles (355 km) south south east of Grand Cayman in the Cayman islands, the center said. (Reporting by Pascal Fletcher)
