TOKYO, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Chickens which died on a farm in Shimane prefecture, western Japan, had a high-severity strain of bird flu, Japan's farm ministry said on Thursday.

At least 30 chickens died at the farm earlier this week.

If further tests confirm the virus as the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain, it would be the first such case in poultry chicken in Japan since 2007. (Reporting by Risa Maeda; Editing by Edwina Gibbs)
