KRAKOW, Poland, Dec 30 (Reuters) - Two miners died and contact was lost with a third after a cave-in at a copper mine in south-western Poland on Thursday, officials said. A strong tremor caused the cave-in at the Rudna mine, owned by Europe's second largest copper producer KGHM <KGHM.WA> and located nearby the town of Polkowice.
"Twenty seven miners were underground in this area when the tremor occured around 10:00 a.m. (0900 GMT). Twenty four of them were evacuated and two taken to hospital," said Dariusz Wyborski, the KGHM spokesman.
A rescue team was still looking for the last miner, but Wyborski said he was also feared dead. (Reporting by Wojciech Zurawski, writing by Gabriela Baczynska)
