New York (Trust.org) – Thomson Reuters Foundation received the "Commended company" designation in the Application of Core Competency category by the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GBC) Awards Judging Panel. The designation was awarded for the Foundation's innovative journalist training curriculum that has provided health reporting training to over 200 journalists from across the world

"Your program exemplifies the powerful impact the private sector is making on global health", GBC said.

The program helps journalists develop their reporting and analytical skills and their ability to present information accurately and impartially, and thus to stimulate public awareness on key health topics. Knowing that media exerts a powerful influence on public perception, TRF also hosted a number of newsmaker events bringing in high-profile speakers like Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Ambassador Mark Dybul to speak about HIV/AIDS.

Awards will be presented to winning companies during GBC's annual conference on June 2 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. They recognize the best corporate programs developed to address global health needs.

Awards are given in six categories: Workplace/Workforce Engagement; Community Investment; Application of Core Competence; Partnership/Collective Action; Technology for Health and Eradicating Root Causes of Poor Health.
