MIAMI, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Florida police on Wednesday said they had foiled a plot to attack a Tampa school after arresting a former student and discovering bomb-making material at his home.
"We were able to foil a potentially catastrophic event the likes of which the city of Tampa has never seen," Jane Castor, Tampa police chief, told a news conference.
Police named the suspect, who was detained and charged on Tuesday, as 17-year-old Jared Cano and said his target was the Freedom High School in Hillsborough County. (Reporting by Tom Brown; Editing by Eric Beech)
