At least 22 people have died and 12 remain missing since Typhoon Mina hit the Philippines at the weekend, the Philippine Star reported, quoting the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

According to the Star, NDRRMC’s report released on Tuesday showed the most number of deaths was recorded in Baguio City, where an open dumpsite gave in and buried several houses.

Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing for the missing people, the authorities added.

NDRRMC also said the typhoon affected some 300,000 people, damaged more than 1,300 houses and caused damages to agriculture and infrastructure at a cost of 1.1 billion pesos ($25.9 million).

Mina, also known as Nanmadol, is the strongest storm to hit the country this year and caused landslides and floods.
