LONDON (Trust.org) – AlertNet, the first humanitarian news site run by Thomson Reuters Foundation, received a Gold trophy for "Best News Site" at the Lovie Awards in London on Friday.
AlertNet accepted the gong from Europe's answer to the Webby Awards at the picturesque St. Luke's Church in London's East End. It had been nominated due to excellence in six criteria: content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity and overall experience.
"AlertNet was started in 1997. It underwent a total redesign and relaunch in late 2010," said Monique Villa, Thomson Reuters Foundation CEO. "That is why I am particularly proud that it received an award this year. It means hard work pays off! AlertNet puts our strengths of speed, accuracy and impartiality at the disposal of the humanitarian community and all aid workers around the globe, offering a one-stop shop for crisis information."
