USGS says Magnitude 6.6 quake off Solomon Islands, no tsunami

SINGAPORE, Jan 9 (Reuters) - A 6.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded 220 miles east of Kira Kira in the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean on Monday at 0407 GMT, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The Hawaii-based U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no destructive tsunami generated. The quake was first reported at magnitude 6.7.
