Ever wished you could see the news in a broader range of languages?
AlertNet Climate, the Thomson Reuters Foundation's daily news website on the human impacts of climate change, is now publishing a range of its reports in languages including Kiswahili, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Spanish, French and Bahasa Indonesia, via a new Facebook page.
The stories, produced by more than 80 freelance writers from around the world, take readers to the front lines of climate change and focus on how it is impacting the world's poorest and most vulnerable.
The translations, carried out by the reporters themselves and quality-checked by experts, aim to broaden the reach of the reports, getting them into the hands of policy makers, researchers and local people who may not necessarily be able to access the material in English.
Translations are available for use free of charge by local media, as long as AlertNet Climate is credited for the work. Support for the translation effort comes from the Climate and Development Knowledge Network.
Reporters for AlertNet Climate say they are delighted to be producing quality stories in their own languages.
"Extremely glad to see AlertNet Climate in Translation up," writes Saleem Shaikh, a correspondent from Karachi, Pakistan. "I'm really anxious to translate my stories into Urdu to see them read by millions worldwide."
"I can't wait to translate my first story into Swahili! Wazo nzuri hilo!" adds Geoffrey Kamadi from Nairobi, Kenya.
"One more giant step by AlertNet Climate," writes Manipadma Jena, a reporter in Bhubaneswar, India.
