Aswat Masriya (AM) is looking to recruit a multimedia journalist to produce and manage all multimedia content on the Aswat Masriya website (www.aswatmasriya.com). This is an 18-month contract, based at the Reuters bureau in Cairo.

Aswat Masriya (AM) is looking to recruit a multimedia journalist to produce and manage all multimedia content on the Aswat Masriya website (www.aswatmasriya.com). This is an 18-month contract, based at the Reuters bureau in Cairo.

 

Aswat Masriya (www.aswatmasriya.com) is a website in both Arabic and English that provides essential news and information around governance and politics in Egypt. Aswat Masriya began as news service covering the Egyptian elections but is evolving to cover more general governance news, with a focus on regional politics, women’s rights and finance. The website is part of a larger Thomson Reuters Foundation (www.trust.org/trustmedia) initiative to strengthen the media in Egypt, along with a programme of elections reporting courses for journalists and media training for parliamentarians.

 

Typical responsibilities under this role

The multimedia journalist will take full responsibility for all multimedia content on the Arabic and English Aswat Masriya websites, including:

-       Directing multimedia content and coming up with ideas for news pieces, multimedia features etc;

-       Managing a network of multimedia stringers throughout Egypt;

-       Editing raw video footage (mostly shot with Flipcams) into simple and timely news cuts;

-       Photo editing and creating visual banners.

Requirements for the role:

As well as having experience in the activities outlined above, candidates must fulfil the following requirements;

-        Experienced video journalist

-        Proven experience in video production and editing and the ability to assemble raw material into a simple but powerful newscuts suitable for broadcasting on Aswat Masriya.

-        Experience in photo editing

-        Familiarity with social media platforms and content management systems (CMS) for multimedia publishing is also appreciated, but not essential.

-        Keen interest in the political and public situation and developments in Egypt;

-        Fluent in both Arabic and English.

-        Egyptian citizen
