We are delighted to announce that Safe World for Women has been voted for by the people as having the 'best idea on the planet' to impact positively on the world.
Thanks to incredible support from people throughout the world, from the grassroots to high profile human rights activists, journalists and politicians, Safe World for Women has won the very first Katerva People's Award.
Gender Equality Winner
Safe World for Women has also been chosen by a Katerva panel of experts as being the best new initative in the world to drive forwards women's equality.
Safe World for Women was nominated by Katerva for the Award back in May 2012.
In August and September, the organisation was assessed by a Katerva validation panel and scalability panel.
In December 2012, Safe World was selected as a finalist for the Katerva Awards and became elligible for entry for the Katerva People's Award.
In January 2013, Safe World for Women was assesed by a Katerva impact panel and has been announced as the winner of the Katerva Gender Equality Award, 2013.
“If the Nobel Society had an award for sustainability, it would resemble the Katerva Awards, a new international prize for the most promising ideas and efforts to advance the planet toward sustainability.”

Message from the Trustees to all supporters
'We thank you all for your incredible support, recognition and dedication.
Safe World for Women is about 'we the people' and we can't do any of this without support from the global community.
We are grateful to the support of those who are already in a position to influence change, both women and men.
We continue to believe that real change needs to be driven by the grassroots. Throughout the world there are many women and men who do incredible work, sometimes at the risk of their own lives, and without recognition.
We would like to accept both Katerva awards in honour of Farida Afridi, RIP.
Farida Afridi was brutally murdered on 4th July 2012, following threats related to her work to promote women's education and peace in the tribal regions of Pakistan.
Farida was co-founder of SAWERA, our Field Partner based in Peshawar, Pakistan.
We will never forget her. May her memory live on in our work to make the world safer for us all.'
