Celebrating 3 Years of TrustLaw Connect

by Thomson Reuters Foundation
Thursday, 18 July 2013 10:58 GMT

This July, the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono service celebrates its third anniversary.

Since 2010, TrustLaw Connect has connected hundreds of NGOs and social enterprises with the best law firms around the world. Our free service enables these organisations to receive legal advice that is crucial to their operations and policy aims while freeing up time and financial resources to further their mission.

In addition to supporting day-to-day legal requests, TrustLaw Connect runs cross-border research programmes to help NGOs and social enterprises advocate for legal reform and obtain a deeper understanding of the legal and policy frameworks within which they operate. TrustLaw Connect publishes and promotes this research to make it as widely available as possible, addressing issues that include social innovation, human trafficking, corruption, microfinance, sexual violence and health.

The global impact of TrustLaw Connect, by the numbers:

  • 300 law firms and nearly 1,000 NGOs and social enterprises are members of the service
  • The service is active in 145 countries, including Palestine, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, and other places where structured pro bono is still an emerging concept
  • Over 680 legal teams have been mobilised to date
  • TrustLaw Connect team members on the ground in the UK, USA, Brazil, India, China, and soon, South Africa
