NEWS: UMCOR SUDAN AWARDED $4.4M GRANT

UMCOR Sudan was recently awarded more than $4.4 million for an 18-month program to increase access to basic services and economic development opportunities for conflict-affected populations in East Darfur and South Darfur State of the Republic of Sudan.

The funding comes from USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), a longtime UMCOR partner, for its program Promoting Sustainable Access to Basic Services and Economic Opportunities for IDPs, Returnees and Conflict-Affected Populations in South and East Darfur States.

The funds will be used to address major community concerns across four sectors—water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); agriculture and food security; shelter, and economic recovery and market systems—which will significantly improve the living conditions of  internally displaced populations, returnees, and host communities.

Activities will be implemented across all nine localities of East Darfur State, and in Nyala Locality of South Darfur State, as well as five camps for the internally displaced in East Darfur State.

This work builds upon UMCOR’s continued partnership with OFDA in assisting vulnerable populations in Darfur, which began in 2006. You can support this work with your gifts to Sudan Emergency, Advance #184385.
