NEWS: CAMBODIA FLOOD RESPONSE

In the last two months, heavy rains caused 17 Cambodia provinces to be completely submerged in water. About 1,737,305 people were affected by severe flooding, and about 15-25% of rice crops were damaged, according to the National Committee for Disaster Management.

Floodwaters seriously impacted the livelihoods of those who are dependent upon rice farming, as a total of 243,368 hectares of paddy fields were submerged and 4,433 hectares were completely destroyed.

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has provided an emergency grant to the Methodist Church in Cambodia to provide short-term food assistance to families in need until they recover from the devastating floods. UMCOR will provide food packages for 1,200 families in five of the most affected provinces in Cambodia, as identified by the Methodist Church in Cambodia.
