Jan 7 (Reuters) - A train has derailed in northwest New Brunswick near the village of Plaster Rock and local residents have been told to evacuate the area, Canadian media reported on Tuesday.

A Canadian Press and Globe and Mail report said a Canadian National Railway train had derailed and caught fire. But it was unclear how big the fire was or whether anyone had been hurt.

Officials with Canadian National could not immediately be reached for comment.
