CAIRO, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Five people were killed in an armed attack on a security checkpoint in the southern Egyptian town of Beni Suef, state television reported on Thursday.

At least 250 police and soldiers have been killed in armed attacks since army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi deposed the elected Islamist president, Mohamed Mursi, in July. (Reporting By Ahmed Tolba; Writing by Maggie Fick; Editing by Nick Macfie)
