Recent conflict in the Central African Republic (CAR) has driven hundreds of thousands of people from their homes, creating a humanitarian crisis in which food assistance is vital. WFP is distributing emergency food rations and working to scale up operations.

The Situation

The conflict in the Central African Republic (CAR) has driven hundreds of thousands of people from their homes, adding a whole new layer of hardship in a country where many people were already struggling to find their next meal. Due to the fighting, farmers have not been able to harvest their crops and many other people have lost their livelihoods.

WFP Response

Despite ongoing violence, WFP is providing food assistance to displaced people in the capital Bangui and the towns of Bouar and Bossangoa. We have also started to reach vulnerable people in rural areas outside of Bossangoa. We are working to scale up operations and aim to reach more than a million people in 2014. As well as general food distributions, we aim to ensure that children and expectant mothers get the nutrition they need at these crucial times in their lives. Donate now
