KIEV, Feb 21 (Reuters) - Ukraine has cancelled its planned issue of 5-year Eurobonds worth $2 billion, the Ukrainian finance ministry said on Friday in a statement to the Irish Stock Exchange.

Ukraine had hoped the $2 billion would be bought by Russia to help the former Soviet state stave off bankruptcy. (reporting by Oksana Kobzeva and Natalia Zinets, writing by Elizabeth Piper, editing by Steve Gutterman)
