PHILADELPHIA, March 4 (Reuters) - An explosion in southern New Jersey's Ewing Township on Tuesday reduced at least one home to rubble and injured at least seven workers, Ewing Township police said.

Aerial video of the scene, shown on Philadelphia ABC affiliate WPVI, showed debris blown into trees and a raging fire from the blast, which occurred around 1 p.m. in a condominium development about 10 miles from Trenton.

Kristine Lloyd, a spokeswoman for utility company PSE&G, told the TV station that workers were called to the scene before noon after a contractor damaged a gas line.

Ewing Township Police Lieutenant Ron Lunetta said there were seven workers known to be injured and emergency crews were conducting a house-to-house search and canvassing area hospitals in an effort to find additional victims.

"As you can understand," Lunetta said, "it's a pretty horrific scene down there."

The injured laborers worked for the utility, the contractor or the township, he said. (Reporting by Daniel Kelley; Editing by Barbara Goldberg and Dan Grebler)
