April 3 (Reuters) - Anadarko Petroleum Corp and its Kerr-McGee unit reached a settlement resolving environmental cleanup claims stemming from the 2009 bankruptcy of paint materials maker Tronox, a source familiar with the agreement told Reuters on Thursday.
Anadarko's stock rose 8 percent in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange as word of a settlement circulated.
The Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency have scheduled a press conference for 3 p.m. (1900 GMT) to announce what they said was a major development in an environmental matter.
