Kenya buses hit by twin blasts

by Reuters

This is all that remains of two buses after twin blasts in the Kenyan capital.

Police believe the attackers planted improvised devices inside.

The vehicles were crowded at the time of the explosions.

Several people have been killed and dozens were wounded in the explosions along Thika Super Highway about 1 kilometre apart.

At least 20 are in critical condition. Several passengers were treated on the road while the severely wounded were rushed to hospitals.

Sunday's attack was the second in Kenya in as many days. Recent violence has been blamed by the government on Somali Islamist group al-Shabaab.

The al-Qaeda-linked group has in recent years launched attacks like these in retaliation for the country's military involvement in Somalia.
