Conflict in the Central African Republic: One year of displacement

by Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) | Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) - International
In March 2013 a coup d'état in the Central African Republic by Muslim fighters called the Seleka plunged the country into conflict, and Christian militia named the anti-Balaka soon formed.

Fighting between the armed groups has torn apart communities along religious lines, but roots of the conflict are political and economic.

Added to the mix are criminal gangs, capitalizing on the chaos and acting with impunity.

Caught up in the crossfire are civilians, who face extreme violence, displacement, dire living conditions and a critical lack of access to medical care.
