Bosnia floods expose remains of missing war victims

by Reuters

A startling discovery in Bosnia.

After floodwaters swept through the country last month, the banks of the Bosna river shifted, revealing two secretly buried bodies.

"The bodies were found by electricians who were fixing the power lines on the surface of the ground because the water had removed the earth and exposed the remains."

Forensic experts said the corpses were found with their hands tied behind their backs, apparently Muslim Bosniaks killed in the country's war.

Now the experts are combing the banks.

They're looking for another 12 victims still missing from a group of 16 killed by Bosnian Serb forces nearby.

"So far, we have found the complete mortal remains of two victims, whose hands were tied on their backs. The bodies were facing the ground and were buried in a shallow grave, some 400 meters from the place where there was an iron bridge where according to our information 16 Bosnian Muslims had been killed."

Some 35,000 people went missing in Bosnia during the war.

About 8,000 are still missing while 1,000 have been found but not been identified.
