MOGADISHU, July 3 (Reuters) - A Somali lawmaker was shot dead in Mogadishu on Thursday, a fellow legislator said.
It was not clear who carried out the attack but in the past militant group al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for similar attacks on government officials. The group has carried out four attacks since the start of the Ramadan fasting month on Sunday, vowing to target the Western-backed government in Mogadishu.
"Our colleague legislator Mohamed Mohamud Hayd and his bodyguard died - another lawmaker and a secretary for the parliamentary were also injured in the exchange of fire," lawmaker Dahir Amin Jesow told Reuters.
