FERGUSON, Mo., Aug 15 (Reuters) - Ferguson, Missouri's top police official on Friday identified Darren Wilson as the police officer who fatally shoot an unarmed black teenager last weekend.

Police Chief Thomas Jackson announced the name at a press conference. The briefing was held near a QuikTrip convenience store that had been burned amid protests over the shooting last Saturday in demonstrations that sometimes had turned violent with looting and riots.

Jackson said he would answer reporters' questions at another briefing later on Friday.

Ferguson police had earlier withheld the name of the officer involved, citing security concerns.
