Emergency relief and recovery organisation Medair is collaborating with partner organisations to deliver much-needed aid to people cut off from assistance.

Since the powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on 25 April, more than 6,000 people have been confirmed dead, more than 13,000 injured, and thousands remain unreached in mountainous, remote villages.

According to the Nepalese government, urgent needs remain in shelter, food, water and sanitation, as well as health.

Medair is working closely with Mission East and other Integral Alliance partners to deliver shelter kits and essential items to people cut off in remote villages in Sindhupalchok, a district northeast of Kathmandu. According to reports, Sindhupalchok is one of the worst-hit districts affected by the earthquake.

“Collaboration is vital in responding to the needs of people affected by this disaster,” said Robert Schofield, Medair’s International Director. “The impact has been devastating and we are approaching  monsoon season which creates even more vulnerability. Medair is working hard to link in with the government and local organisations, and together with long-established partner organisations, we are distributing essential relief items to the most vulnerable.”

Thanks to UK aid, Medair received more than 1,100 shelter kits, including tarpaulins and rope, and more than 500 solar lamps to distribute to people in need.

Medair’s Emergency Response team was in Kathmandu within 48 hours of the earthquake and will be focusing on responding to people’s shelter, health, and hygiene needs. Our team will provide essential household and shelter relief items, as well as emergency health kits to the region.
