ATHENS, Dec 4 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Friday it might be possible to get the Syrian government and rebel forces to cooperate against Islamic State militants without Syrian President Bashar al-Assad having left power.

However, he said it would be "exceedingly difficult" to secure such cooperation without some indication that there was a solution in sight regarding Assad's future. (Reporting by Arshad Mohammed; Writing by Paul Taylor)
