OTTAWA, Jan 15 (Reuters) - The Supreme Court of Canada on Friday granted the federal government a qualified extension of time to come up with a law on doctor-assisted suicide in response to the court's earlier decision overturning a ban on the practice.
When the high court issued its decision last February, it suspended its application for 12 months to allow Parliament to regulate how and when it would be permitted. The court agreed on Friday to give it four more months but it made certain exemptions to its decision.
