BERLIN, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Proposed measures including free local public transport are intended as supplementary efforts in the struggle to cut harmful car emissions, a German environment ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

Spokesman Stefan Gabriel Haufe added that the purpose of these proposed measures was not to cut the burden on auto makers, who are on the hook to pay for necessary emission-cutting modifications to vehicles already on the road. (Reporting by Thomas Escritt)
