Text Messages: A New Way to Fight Hunger in Senegal
In the Ziguinchor region, the World Food Programme (WFP) has implemented a new system that uses text messages, or SMS, to transfer money to people affected by food insecurity during the lean season. So far, this new method has benefited 55,000 people.

JIMMA - Today the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) opened a third logistics base in western Ethiopia for cross-border delivery of vital food assistance into South Sudan, while calling for more funding to support urgent food and nutrition needs of South Sudanese seeking refuge in Ethiopia. Two additional aircraft will operate out of Jimma, bringing food to remote communities isolated by conflict and poor road conditions in South Sudan.

He has since picked himself up and boasts of a healthy heard of 17 cattle which he now takes for dipping regularly at the Mfanyana Dip Tank, recently constructed with the help of fellow villagers through WFP's Productive Asset Creation activities.
