Globally, 1.2 billion people have no access to electricity. In many developing countries, every night is spent in darkness. It’s unsafe to venture out, it’s dangerous to give birth in the dark and children are unable to take part in simple everyday activities such as homework. In many places, when night falls, children study by candlelight. With the support of Plan International and its partner organisations, communities across the world are now switching to solar power and using the earth’s natural resources so they can make the most of their day – and night! What's more, solar power is even powering schools in shipping containers and ensuring villages have access to a clean, safe water supply
