Images offer a glimpse into the private world between mother and baby, and demonstrate that the conditions under which they will give birth dictate whether mothers will pack life-saving necessities like sterile razor blades and torches, or choose stress-relieving luxuries.
The project was commissioned by international development charity WaterAid to highlight that the choices made by women largely depend on whether they can rely on access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene when they give birth.
The project is part of WaterAid’s Deliver Life appeal which is raising money to give mothers, their new-borns and their families a brighter start and a better future – simply through clean, safe water, proper toilets and better hygiene.
