The impact of the legal projects undertaken through TrustLaw Connect goes far beyond the scope of the initial work. Through their work, the lawyers in our network help change legislation, and help NGOs and social enterprises reach more individuals with their vital services. The Impact Award recognises projects that demonstrate significant, wide-ranging impact on the pro bono client, their community, and beyond.

The nominees for 2013 were:

  • Orrick working with SharedImpact to launch an online marketplace for social investment products in the US. 

And the winners are...White & Case and Grasty Quintana Majlis & Cia (Chile) working with Visayan Forum!

Collaboration AwardBack to top

TrustLaw Connect projects often span multiple jurisdictions and require a number of pro bono providers and clients to work together to achieve a common goal. The Collaboration Award showcases highly effective working relationships between pro bono providers and recipients that have dramatically increased the potential impact of projects as a result.

 The nominees for 2013 are:

  • Latham & Watkins and 10 domestic law firms working with the World Bank Gender and Development Unit to research laws that affect women's access to resources.

And the winners are...DLA Piper and CMS Cameron McKenna working with the Anti-Domestic Violence Network/Beijing Fanbao (China)!

Our view has always been that ambitious legal projects have the potential to facilitate the evolution of an entire sector. The Innovation Award showcases projects that feature not only a new and exciting idea or enterprise, but a legal team that used creativity in addressing the issues faced.

The nominees for 2013 are:

  • Clayton Utz (Australia) working with Desert Peoples Centre to produce a legal structure guide for social entrepreneurs, with a focus on Indigenous people and organisations. 
  • Pekin & Pekin (Turkey) provided restructuring advice to Grameen-Jameel (UAE) for a potential investment in a Turkish microfinance institute.

And the winners are...Barrera, Siqueiros Y Torres Landa (Mexico) working with Arquetopia Foundation for Development!

Legal Team of the Year AwardBack to top

This award recognises hard work and enthusiasm in supporting pro bono clients over the last year on projects undertaken through TrustLaw Connect in different categories: domestic law firm, international law firm, and in-house legal team. The nominees for 2013 are:

And the winners are...Routledge Modise, Latham & Watkins, and Merck!

Lawyer of the YearBack to top

The 2013 TrustLaw Connect Lawyer of the Year Award honours the individual lawyers who have gone above and beyond in giving exceptional pro bono support. NGO and social enterprise members were asked to nominate a lawyer, or team of lawyers, that they feel have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to a project. We received over 700 votes!

And the winners are...Hainin Lin and Dayin Zhang from Jun He Law Offices in China.
