World Humanitarian Summit online debate

“How should we manage climate risks and disasters differently?”

May 18, 2016, 1400-1500 BST (London time)

Expert Panel: Robert Glasser, head of the U.N. Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) / Maarten van Aalst, director, Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre / Helen Szoke, chief executive, Oxfam Australia / Naser Haghamed, CEO, Islamic Relief Worldwide / Luis Artur, professor, Eduardo Mondale University, Maputo

How to manage risks and crises better, as natural disasters become more frequent and intense in a warming world, is a key issue for governments at the World Humanitarian Summit on May 23-24.

In an online debate ahead of the conference, organised by the Thomson Reuters Foundation and the BRACED (Building Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Extremes and Disasters) programme, we discuss ways of making local communities more resilient to natural hazards and helping them adjust to changes in the climate.
