PRAGUE, Oct 27 (Reuters) - Nine people died in a fire overnight in an abandoned building near Prague's central bus station that was used as a shelter by homeless people, the capital's fire brigade said on Wednesday.

The fire broke out in the building, owned by a rail company, around midnight, it said. It was the most deadly fire in the city of 1.3 million for several decades.

"Two people were saved who said other people were inside the two-storey building," fire department spokeswoman Pavlina Adamcova said.

"We are now sifting through the site...a ninth body was found a little while ago," she added.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
