MILAN, Jan 26 (Reuters) - The meeting between Russia's President Vladimir Putin and leading Italian businessmen was constructive and went very well, one of the organisers told Reuters on Wednesday.

"There were 16 companies present and it was an open and friendly dialogue," the president of the Italy-Russia chamber of commerce Vincenzo Trani said in a phone call.

The video-link meeting with Putin went ahead on Wednesday despite a call from the Italian government for companies not to attend amid growing fears Russia might invade Ukraine.

Trani said Putin had not spoken about Ukraine or Italian politics. (Reporting by Stephen Jewkes, editing by Giulia Segreti)
