MODERN SLAVERY UK: The law enforcer

In this video, British Detective Inspector Jim Faulkner tells the Thomson Reuters Foundation about leading one of the country's biggest special anti-trafficking operations.

Operation Retriever was set up in September to uncover and track down human trafficking and modern day slavery in the Greater Manchester area of Britain. It could provide a template for similar operations around the country.

The Home Office (interior ministry) estimates that there were up to 13,000 victims of slavery in Britain in 2013.  Many are forced to work in factories and farms, sold for sex in brothels, or imprisoned in domestic servitude, among other forms of exploitation.
