Social innovators: Safeena Husain

When girls get a proper education they are less likely to get married at an early age or to die in childbirth. Instead they are likely to have healthier children, more likely to find work and earn more money.

In India more than three million girls are out of school - a fact that prompted social entrepreneur Safeena Husain to found Educate Girls and train young men and women to go into villages to find girls that are not in the classroom.

Founded in 2007, Educate Girls has grown from a 500-school project to serving nearly a million children in areas of Rajasthan, a state in western India with the worst indicators for girls' education. It has brought more than 80,000 girls back into school.
