Our client is the international department of the German Caritas Association (DCV) . From its headquarters in Freiburg, Caritas Germany provides support to some 1,000 aid projects around the world every year. Caritas Germany helps people irrespective of their religion, ethnic identity or nationality. The “effective help for selfhelp” strategy means providing acute emergency assistance and developing this into longer-term development and social work together with those involved.<br><br>
Lebanon’s domestic political situation is a complex one. Society is starkly divided along religious lines and still bears the scars of a long civil war (1975-1990), Syrian occupation (until 2005) and regional conflict. At present, the situation is greatly impacted by the political repercussions of the Syrian crisis and the presence of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees in Lebanon.<br><br>
Our client is looking for a Project Coordinator to oversee its efforts. The position will be based at the local Caritas structure in Beirut.
Your tasks
- You will determine the need for emergency and refugee aid measures.
- You will ensure ongoing reporting to the Caritas Germany head office.
- You will identify further suitable local partners and projects in the field of emergency and refugee aid, determine the need for assistance and make suitable recommendations to the head office.
- You will undertake networking activities with relevant players.
In particular, you will be responsible for the following:
- You will provide support to local partners in planning and implementing Caritas Germany financed emergency and refugee aid projects.
- You will be responsible for coordinating needs assessment for emergency aid and reconstruction measures and for examining and evaluating project applications by local partner organisations.
- You will be involved in planning and managing projects and programmes and will monitor ongoing projects from a technical and administrative perspective. By means of training and consulting, you will help local partners to implement project agreements and administrative guidelines.
- You will ensure that Caritas Germany standards are adhered to in project administration.
- You will prepare support applications to public fund providers (German Government, EU).
- You will coordinate and oversee the short-term commissioning of specialist consultants.
Your profile:
- You have several years of hands-on experience working in the field of humanitarian aid and also have experience working in Lebanon, in the general region or in a similar environment.
- You have skills in advising and training local partner organisations.
- In addition to a degree in a relevant area, you have practical experience in programme and project planning and in programme management (PME, PCM); as well as this, you have experience in managing public funds and in financial management and bookkeeping.
- You are physically and mentally capable of coping with extensive travel (50%) in a country with a tense security situation.
- You identify with the objectives and outlook of Caritas international.
- You have an excellent command of English and German. A knowledge of French and Arabic would be an advantage but is not essential.
- You are a member of a Christian Church and an EU or Swiss citizen.
