Eleven journalists from Latin America are the latest business reporters to benefit from a Reuters Foundation training course. Held in Santiago, Chile, during April and funded in partnership with the World Bank and the Central Bank of Chile, the week-long workshop combined theoretical training on business news coverage with practical writing exercises.
The Central Bank of Chile provided the venue and the bank's President, José De Gregorio, was one of the guest speakers, explaining his institution's monetary policy. The participants, drawn from Argentina, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay as well as from the host country, also visited the Thomson Reuters office in Santiago where the Spanish Language Chief, Alejandro Lifschitz briefed them about bureau operations and the Thomson Reuters Spanish service.
Juan Lagorio of the agency's commodities desk in Santiago joined Raquel Stenzel, Thomson Reuters trainer for Latin America, in conducting the workshop.
