LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - A Moroccan court jailed a woman for ten years for killing a man who had repeatedly raped her, local media reported on Friday.

The 34-year-old woman, known as Fatima, said she had sought help and reported the attacks to local authorities but was faced with indifference.

"He killed me a thousand times before I killed him too," local media quoted the woman as saying.

In court in the northern city of Fès, Fatima told  judges how she killed her rapist with an axe, disfigured him, and dumped his body in a river.

The man had been raping her for three years, she said, at her home where she lived with her blind father.

"I prefer a life in prison to the torture this rapist put me through," she was quoted as saying.
